Klaver artworks, behind the scenes

We regularly get the question: "How do we do that?" Here is a look behind the scenes and the process in our studio.

All our jewelry is crafted by master alchemist John King, who transforms real natural objects into lasting talismans using the centuries-old technique of electroplating. Each four-leaf clover is carefully selected from a living Trifolium repens plant that we have lovingly cared for for years, originally from the Royal Botanical Gardens in the United Kingdom.

Four-leaf clovers are rare: in nature, on average, only one occurs for every 5,000 clovers. Even on our own cultivated plant, only about 20–30% of the four-leaf clovers form leaves. They must be picked at precisely the right moment: clover grows quickly, can become too large, and moreover follows a subtle day-night rhythm—in the morning the leaf opens to the sunlight, in the evening it folds closed again. Because of this natural movement, four-leaf clovers are one of the few items we press carefully, so that their iconic shape and symmetry are perfectly preserved before the sealing process begins.

Next, each clover is freshly cast by hand and sealed in a special epoxy, making it completely watertight and airtight. Then, a stainless steel eyelet is attached with utmost precision—a meticulous job given such a delicate and fragile natural shape. After curing, the piece is placed in a copper bath, where a thin base layer of 0.2 microns is formed. After drying, it is 'dipped' again in liquid 24-karat gold, and the clover is immortalized in a 0.2-micron fine layer of gold. Finally, after drying, each piece of jewelry is carefully polished by hand and individually packaged.
The entire process takes about a week and consists of delicate movements, quiet attention, and great care. The result is a totally unique piece of jewelry with a soul and a story.

Gold-plated jewelry may fade or discolor slightly over time, depending on use and care. Read the care tips on our caretaking page and contact us if you have any questions. Your satisfaction is always our top priority.
